Librarian of the Year

At the 2002 Business Meeting in St. Augustine Florida, the Association created a FHSLA Librarian of the Year Award to recognize an individual within FHSLA that was shown dedication and make contributions to his or her library.

Nomination Deadline - TBD 2026

General required criteria to apply for the FHSLA Librarian of the Year:

• Must be a current member of FHSLA
• Must be a member of FHSLA for a least one year
• Candidate makes important contributions to his/her library
• The candidate has demonstrated excellence in job performance
• At least 5 years as an information professional

Terms:  The recipient will receive an individual plaque, as well as the traveling plaque at the FHSLA Annual Meeting for his/her recognition as the Librarian of the Year. It is requested, but not required, that the recipient be present at the Annual Meeting.  Announcement of the winner will be made at the Business Meeting.

Selection Process: The Honor and Awards Committee will receive application forms and determine that applicants have met the general criteria.  A point system will be used as an evaluation tool in the following areas: influences and accomplishments at work, outstanding achievements, contribution to the profession, and leadership qualities.

Nomination Information Requested:

• Nominee’s name, institution name, address, phone number, email address and years of service.
• Describe the reason(s) why you think the nominee is deserving of this award (not to exceed one page). Information may include contributions to the profession, accomplishments at his/her library, assistance to other libraries or librarians, involvement in library associations, or other areas of personal achievement.
• The nominator may submit up to three (3) letters of support for the nominee. Letters should be included with the nomination.
• Your name, institution name, address, phone number, and email address.
