  • Membership Renewal

Let's Talk Shop

January 29, 2025 is the Membership Committee's next Let's Talk Shop advice session! This open advice session was first introduced at the mid-year meeting and gained popular support!

Join us for an engaging advice session where you can ask questions, connect with fellow members, and share experiences with other FHSLA members.

The Padlet to post questions is accessible here.  Please see your email for Janet Chan's contact information if you encounter difficulties adding questions to the padlet.

The sessions are open to both members and non-members so feel free to share the registration link with your colleagues.  This meeting will be hosted on Zoom. Register here.

Webmaster

Pammy Herring has stepped down from webmaster. Pammy has been such an important part of the FHSLA executive board and her wealth of knowledge, especially related to the website and all it's parts has been so appreciated. We are going to miss her on the board but will see her around the organization. Melodie Gardner has agreed to step in her place. We welcome Melodie and appreciate her volunteering.

FHSLA 2025 Annual Meeting

Planning for the Annual Meeting is in full swing with many details already discussed and set in place. You should have received a Saved the Date for the meeting. I am hoping to see as many members at the meeting as possible! I think it is going to be a really exciting meeting with a lot to hear and see.

This year's theme is: "Fostering Truth and Communication in Digital Health Communities" and will focus on how health information and knowledge is shaped by online communities. We'll look at misinformation, predatory publishing and how unreliable health advice has been on the rise.

The meeting is going to be held at the Tampa Bay History Center in Tampa, FL on March 13-14, 2025. Registration will be coming and we are excited to see you all there!

Honors, Awards & Scholarships

Be on the lookout for information from the Honors and Awards Committee to nominate yourself or a colleague for the different awards and scholarships available to FHSLA Members. These will include:
  • Honorary Member
  • Librarian of the Year
  • Librarian and Paraprofessional Scholarship
  • Student Scholarship

Open Positions

Also, be on the lookout for open positions with FHSLA. In the coming weeks, you should see communication for the following open positions from the Nominating Committee:
  • Secretary
  • Vice President
I encourage members, especially those who have never served on the FHSLA executive board, to consider one of these options. There is so much to learn and the experience of being a part of the Associations success and future is so rewarding. If anyone has any questions about the positions or would like to hear more about experience on the executive board, feel free to reach out to me and I'll be happy to share my own experience or connect you with other members of the board. If you are unable to serve on the executive board, committees are another great way to get involved and be a part of shaping the organization.

Bylaws

One thing I am extremely excited about is the updated FHSLA Bylaws! The Bylaws committee has worked extremely hard to comb the Bylaws for updates, additions and format changes to help make this a lasting document. We look forward to sharing this with membership later this year.

Listserv

.The FHSLA listserv is being replaced by Gaggle.email! We found that we were experiencing some technical issues with our current email list, Google Groups. While Google Groups has been a great resource there were some registration issues with some members we couldn't fix easily. We are hoping by making an investment into Gaggle we will have a listserv that is more predictable, reliable and easier to use for both administrators and members. Additionally, it will serve as the membership directory as users must create a login to be able to access the directory details. Watch your email for registration information in the coming weeks. There will be a transition period where both email lists will be active so there's no need to worry about any missed emails! (You may receive this email twice if you are in the test group).

Membership Renewal

One last thing! Membership Renewal is in full swing. I encourage you to renew your membership to continue getting all the great benefits of our amazing organization. This is also a great way to let us know if you are interested in serving on a committee!
  • Networking Opportunities
  • CE's
  • Meetings
  • Advice Sessions
  • AHIP Point opportunities
We continue to try and find new ways to engage our membership and share opportunities for continuing education and networking. Our Membership Committee is one of our most popular committees and they are very involved with finding ways that membership can get the most out of their FHSLA Membership. They have done an amazing job with providing feedback to the association, planning events and helping with membership opportunities in different areas.
