Position Description
Are you looking for a purposeful career opportunity with one of the nation’s leading healthcare organizations? The Mayo Clinic Libraries are recruiting a resourceful and collaborative individual to serve as a full-time, hospital-based medical reference librarian in Jacksonville, Florida. The Mayo Clinic's multi-state, dynamic library team supports a diverse mix of patrons in an inclusive and growth-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will be service-focused and interested in advancing skills through formal training to deliver timely, comprehensive literature searches, including working with systematic reviews, as well as other library services.
In addition to providing core reference assistance, including developing expert search strategies, the medical reference librarian will proactively foster and sustain relationships with clinicians, allied health professionals, researchers, and students in the hospital setting. Other responsibilities consist of providing orientations and consultations, both in-person and virtually, and training patrons to effectively utilize library-related tools. There may be opportunities for involvement with collection development, outreach, and special projects, and the librarian will also assist with technical troubleshooting and day-to-day operations. Additionally, the librarian will engage in innovative activities within the larger Mayo Clinic library system and keep current with new developments in the medical library profession. Applicants should possess strong analytical, customer service, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. This onsite position reports to the supervising librarian at Mayo Clinic’s Medical Library in Jacksonville, Florida.
Qualified applicants will have recent library service experience using e-resources including Springshare products (such as LibGuides), citation management programs (such as EndNote), Medline, and other healthcare-related bibliographic databases (such as Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Web of Science, and Scopus).
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume or CV, and provide a list of three or more references. This position will be filled at the Librarian III level based on prior experience in a similar role. Applications received before July 4, 2024, will receive priority consideration.
** Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent archival degree.
  • Library/archives experience, particularly work experience in a health sciences or scientific research library, institutional archive or museum, technology center, or similar environment.
  • Requires a total of 5 years of relevant, postgraduate professional experience.
  • Basic level knowledge in the following areas: information services, information management, instruction and instructional design, leadership and management, evidence-based practice and research, and health information professionalism. (Based on MLA Competencies.)
  • Expert level knowledge in one or more of the following areas: information services, information management, instruction and instructional design, leadership and management, evidence-based practice and research, and health information professionalism. (Based on MLA Competencies.)​
Preferred Experience and/or Qualifications:
  • AHIP membership, similar credential or certificate, or an additional advanced degree in a subject area pertinent to the position.
  • Academic appointment.
  • Participation on a professional committee or task force.
  • History of relevant scholarly publications or presentations.
  • Record of professional association participation.
  • Participation on a community service board or committee.
 
Compensation Detail: $64,500 - $96,824 depending on qualifications and experience. Full benefit package is provided for this full-time, benefits eligible position. Funding for interview expenses and moving expenses may apply to non-local applicants.

Open Educational Resources (OER) Librarian
The OER Librarian at Florida International University Libraries plays a key role in fostering collaboration, supporting scholarship campus-wide, and championing innovative ideas. Working closely with librarians and faculty, this role contributes to the integration of library materials into the university curriculum, emphasizing open educational resources (OER) and digital learning objects. The incumbent actively collaborates with various university partners to raise awareness of OER initiatives, encouraging broad participation by departments, faculty, and students.

Key Responsibilities:
Collaborative OER Initiatives:
  • Develops and maintains web content promoting information literacy, including video tutorials, research guides, and digital learning objects.
  • Stays abreast of OER and low-cost textbook initiatives, leading efforts to promote their adoption campus-wide.
  • Actively engages with university partners such as FIU Online, the Center for the Advancement of Teaching, and the Textbook Affordability Committee to support textbook affordability and OER efforts.
  • Provides leadership in inspiring faculty to develop, adopt, and assess OER for student benefit.
  • Leads the development and implementation of OER policies related to copyright, open licensing, and attribution of Creative Commons materials.
Curriculum Support and Assessment:
  • Assists librarians in developing information literacy workshops.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of library instruction efforts, including creating assessment instruments.
Instructional Support:
  • Develops, delivers, and assesses information literacy instruction for assigned programs, utilizing both in-person and online formats.
  • Integrates new technologies and pedagogies into instructional delivery.
  • Contributes to library instruction efforts within the instruction team.
Librarianship and Scholarship:
  • Serves as liaison to selected academic programs, participating in collection management for liaison schools and programs.
  • Participates in Library committees and contribute to the planning and development of Library-wide policies and services.
  • Provides reference and research assistance to library users.
  • Maintains an ongoing service and scholarship record.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Experience with library instruction and information literacy.
  • Proficiency in instructional technologies and digital learning object creation.
  • Familiarity with assessment and evaluation methodologies.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of open education, open access, copyright, and intellectual property issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of pedagogical and learning theories.
